★ For Australian tradies

Find out what AI says about your business.

When someone asks ChatGPT or Google’s AI for a tradie in your suburb, it names somebody. We’ll tell you whether that somebody is you, who it names instead, and what to do about it.

  • Costs nothing
  • Report in one business day
  • Nothing to buy
  • Yours to keep

We built this scan for our own clients. We’re running it free while we’ve got the capacity, because we’d rather spend the time in front of tradies than on ads.

Once the report is written

No cost, no obligation, and we don’t sell your details to anyone.

Why this matters now

Your customers have started asking a chatbot instead of scrolling Google.

When they do, they don’t get ten blue links to pick through. They get one short answer naming two or three businesses, and then they ring one of them. If you’re not one of the names, you never existed as far as that customer is concerned.

Picture the best restaurant in the country sat in a paddock with no sign and no listing. Doesn’t matter how good the food is. Nobody’s coming.

Here’s our position, and plenty of people in marketing will argue with it. The work itself is safe. No robot is climbing into a roof cavity, finding damp and explaining it to a homeowner. What’s changed is how customers find you, and that’s it. Anyone selling you an AI rebrand while your Google profile sits half finished is charging you a premium for the wrong job.

It’s two jobs, not one. The old guard, your Google Business Profile, your website, the basics done properly. And the new guard, making sure the AI assistants can actually read and repeat what you do. The scan tells you where you stand on the second one.

The numbers behind it

This went from a novelty to half the population in about a year.

Most of the good data is American, because nobody has published the Australian version yet. We have said where each figure comes from and what it actually measured, so you can judge it yourself rather than take our word for it.

45%

of consumers now ask an AI tool for local business recommendations, up from 6% a year earlier

BrightLocal, Local Consumer Review Survey, March 2026. 1,002 US adults.

49%

of US adults have used an AI chatbot, up from 33% in 2024. Four in ten use one to search for information

Pew Research Center, June 2026. 5,119 US adults, surveyed February 2026.

68%

of local business searches already returned an AI answer sitting above the normal results

Whitespark, May 2025. 540 searches across three US cities and six trades.

11%

of Australian small businesses used AI at all last financial year, so almost nobody in your trade has looked at this

Australian Bureau of Statistics, released 25 June 2026. Measures business use of AI, not customer use.

Sources, all open to read: BrightLocal, Pew Research Center, Whitespark, Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Read those together and you get the whole point of this page. Your customers have moved faster than your competitors have. Then we went and measured the Australian side of it ourselves.

Our own research

We opened 500 Australian tradie websites on a phone and counted what we found.

Not a survey, and not somebody else’s numbers. We took a random sample of 500 Australian trade businesses, loaded each one on a real mobile screen, and recorded what a customer would actually get. 391 of them were live enough to measure. Here is what came back.

51%

of live tradie websites never put a tappable phone number in front of a mobile visitor without scrolling

199 of 391 live sites. Either no tap to call link at all, or one buried below the first screen.

1 in 6

of the websites Google lists for a trade business are dead, broken, expired or pointed somewhere else entirely

72 of 463 addresses checked. Error pages, expired site builder accounts, blank redirects, and a handful quietly taken over by somebody else.

That second number is the one that matters for this page. AI can only describe you using what it can read about you. If the front door Google is sending people to has quietly fallen over, there is nothing there to read, and the business two suburbs away gets described instead.

Method, so you can judge it: 500 Australian trade businesses sampled at random, each homepage loaded at a real phone screen size on a mobile browser in September 2026. 391 live sites measured, 72 dead or broken, the rest excluded because the listed address was a social media or directory profile rather than the business’s own site. Margin of error roughly 5 points. Full study publishing shortly.

Sound familiar

Five things we hear from tradies every week.

“The phone’s quieter than it was and nobody can tell me why.”
Quiet is a symptom, not a cause. Your Google ranking can be perfectly healthy while the AI answer sitting above it hands your customer three other businesses. The scan tells you which of those two is happening.
“I’m on page one, so I assumed I was sorted.”
Page one and getting named by AI are two different lists now, picked in two different ways. Plenty of businesses are on one and nowhere near the other, and there is no way to tell from the outside without checking both.
“I pay someone for marketing and I can’t tell what it’s doing.”
Then take the report to them. It is a straight question with a number attached, and a good marketer will be glad you asked. If they get funny about it, that tells you something too.
“Someone tried to sell me AI something and I didn’t understand a word of it.”
That one annoys us as much as it annoys you. Charging a premium for an AI rebrand while the basics sit half finished is the oldest trick in marketing wearing a new jacket. This is a check, not a product.
“I haven’t got time to learn another thing.”
You don’t have to. We run it, you read one page, and the fixes are in plain English in the order we would do them. Some of them take ten minutes and a phone.

Any of those land? Put your details in at the top and we’ll go and look.

What the scan checks

We ask the AI what a customer would ask it, then we count the answers.

We run your trade and your area through the assistants people actually use, from a spread of points around your address rather than one search from one spot. Where the customer is standing changes the answer, so one search proves nothing.

Whether you get named at all

Across every search we run, how many times your business comes up. Not a score we invented. A count.

Who gets named instead

The businesses the AI hands your customer when it doesn’t hand them you, and how often each one shows up.

What the AI thinks you do

Often not what you actually do. If it has you down as a handyman and you do full bathroom fitouts, that gap is costing you the bigger jobs.

Where it’s reading you from

The information out there about your business, and which bits of it are wrong, thin or missing entirely. That’s usually where the problem starts.

What lands in your inbox

A short report, in plain English, with no jargon in it.

A person runs the scan and a person writes the report. It’s not a form that spits out a template with your name pasted in the top.

  1. Where you stand. Whether you were named, how often, and what that actually means.
  2. Who’s taking the calls. The businesses named in your place, with the numbers behind it.
  3. What’s being said about you. How your business is described right now, and where that’s wrong.
  4. The three things we’d fix first. In order, with the reason each one is on the list.
  5. What you can sort yourself for nothing. Some of it takes ten minutes and a phone. We’ll tell you which bits.

If you already pay someone for marketing, take the report to them and ask what they’re doing about it. We mean that.

What happens after you hit send

Three steps, and you control the third one.

1. We run it

Usually the same day. It’s a real scan against live results, which is why it takes a bit longer than a button press.

2. The report lands

In your inbox within one business day. Yours to keep, forward, or hand to whoever does your marketing.

3. We give you a ring

Five minutes to walk you through what it found. Tick the box on the form and we’ll skip this bit entirely.

One call, not a campaign. Tell us you’re not interested and that’s the end of it, and you still keep the report.

Before you put your number in

The questions you’re actually thinking.

Is it really free?

Yes. No card, no trial, no invoice at the end. The scan costs us a bit of tool credit and half an hour of someone’s time, and we’ve decided that’s a fair price for getting in front of tradies.

What do you do with my details?

Run the scan and send you the report. We don’t sell them, we don’t pass them on, and we don’t add you to a mailing list you didn’t ask for.

Are you going to keep ringing me?

One call, and only if you leave the box unticked. Say no thanks and we stop. That’s the whole policy.

Do I have to buy anything?

No. If you want us to fix what the report finds, that’s $299 a month and we’ll talk you through exactly what it covers. If you’d rather do it yourself, the report tells you how. Both are fine by us.

Do I need a website for this?

No. Plenty of tradies get named by AI off a Google Business Profile and a few listings. A site makes it a lot easier, but the scan works either way and the report will tell you which one is holding you back.

Who’s actually doing this?

We’re 5 Star Tradie, based in Melbourne, and we build websites and handle local search for Australian trade businesses. Our number and our email are on every page of this site, including this one.

Common questions

AI visibility questions.

What is an AI visibility scan?

It is a check of whether AI assistants name your business when someone asks them for your trade in your area. We run the question a customer would ask from a spread of points around your address, count how often you come up, record which businesses come up instead, and report what we find.

Does the scan cost anything?

No. There is no charge, no card details and no invoice afterwards. We are offering it free because it puts us in front of tradies, and because most tradies have never seen this data about their own business.

How long does it take to get my report?

Within one business day of you submitting the form. The scan itself usually runs the same day, and the report is written by a person rather than generated automatically, which is the part that takes the time.

Which AI assistants do you check?

The ones your customers are actually using, which today means ChatGPT and Google’s AI answers, alongside the local results those answers lean on. We check what a real customer would see, not a lab test.

Do I need a website before this is worth doing?

No. A properly set up Google Business Profile and consistent listings can get you named without a website, and the scan will show you whether that is happening. If a missing website is what is holding you back, the report says so.

What happens after I get the report?

We ring you for about five minutes to walk you through it, unless you ticked the box asking us not to. There is no obligation after that call. The report is yours to keep, act on yourself, or hand to whoever currently does your marketing.

Find out where you actually stand.

It takes twenty seconds to ask, one business day to get back, and it costs you nothing either way.
